Wuhan Speed Limit
In terms of opening the economy during this Wuhan virus crisis and considering the cost of lives that might result think about speed limits.
Some will remember limits imposed during WWII, and probably all during the 70’s gas crisis. On today’s highways we can drive 70 to 75 mph. If we reduce the speed limit to 50 mph, lives will be saved. Let’s assume highway lives are like Wuhan virus lives. The vulnerable are restricted from driving. The speed limit is reduced to protect deaths in our population. In a few cases to zero. We know that fewer citizens, as a percentage of the whole, will die.
Then we ask the governors to decide. State by State they can increase speed limits. There will be more deaths. Think about what your preference would be. Would you rather drive at 70 mph or 50 mph. Your vote will cost lives. How would you vote? This is the decision or the consideration for reopening our economy today. How fast? The faster you go, the more lives may be lost?
When driving do you prefer 20, 50, 0r 70. Most prefer faster!
